Liam had his 1 year checkup last week. Here are his stats, but I am not sure that the height is accurate. The nurse measured him on the stand up one and how you can get an accurate measurement for a baby that you can't tell to stand up straight, I don't know.
- Height: 30.2 in., 50th percentile (up only .2 inches in 4 months, after growing 2 inches in between all of his other appointments. Also down from the 90th percentile to the 50th...)
- Weight: 24lbs. (+ 1.75 lbs in 4 months, went from the 81st percentile to the 60th.)
- Head Circumference: 19.25in (up .25in. in 4 months, dropped from 99th to 96th percentile.)
He had to have his shots in his arm this time. Ouch! He was not a happy camper. After she did it he was trying to rip the band aids off because he was pretty sure it was them that were stinging him!
- The doctor told me I should only be giving him half as much milk as I have been. She said that if he is drinking too much milk he won't eat enough solids to get the nutrition he needs. I was reluctant at first, but I have to admit that since I have cut him back he has eaten much better, and he doesn't seem to miss the extra milk.
- He really doesn't like pureed food anymore. He only wants to eat real whole foods. His favorite thing right now is scrambled eggs. He ate THREE all by himself yesterday and today, this after polishing off an entire banana not an hour before.
He loves to swing, slide, and play with his boats in the water.
His love for the dogs grows everyday which makes keeping him from sharing his food with them a challenge. It might not help that we let him give them their treats now...
When I ask him if he is hungry, he nods yes and goes to the fridge and points. From what I can tell he is the opposite of most kids whose first learned response it "no". He doesn't know how to use no appropriately yet, but he has "ya" down pat.
Not quite sure why, but he has been super clingy with me the past week and half. Might have something to do the weaning process, not sure yet. Some great things and some not so great things are coming from that. Today he ran out of bottle before he was asleep for his nap so I laid him down awake and he had to figure out how to fall asleep that way. It took some crying, some back rubbing and some singing but he did manage to fall asleep. One thing that could be considered good or bad, depending on how you look at it is that he will lay on the floor and drink his bottle without assistance. This has freed up about 30 minutes of my mourning routine, but it has also taken away 30 minutes of interrupted cuddle time, and I think maybe this is where the clingyness is coming from. It does make me happy that he and I did have SO much "quality" eating time together for his first snugly year.
Liam says mama, dada, baba, ya, and something resembling Lucy. He babbles a lot of other things, but those are the only ones that are consistently accurate in context.
He can clap "correctly" now. For the longest time he would clap one hand onto his other arm, or the back of his other hand.
- He waves bye bye, but not on command, and its usually after whoever it is has already left.
- He gives kisses every once in a while ( meaning he opens his mouth and leans in while you give him a kiss.) Mostly to Daddy and Rocco, I still get the bites for whatever reason.
- My favorite thing that Liam can do it "Shake It", which just means dance, but we don't dance, we shake it!
